Dream, dream, dream

Posted in Decor by thisisanexperiment on January 29, 2009

I remember being 15, and wanting to move out of my parents’ home ASAP. I could barely wait. Alas, reality knocked on my door, and burst my bubble of moving out so soon.

Moving out to live on your own is what I feel, a rite of passage. How else will you learn to be your own person, if you are forever living in someone’s home, under someone’s rules (no matter how much you doth protest that you are an Adult).

I guess the whole “move out when 18” thing doesn’t quite apply in Singapore, our sunny lil’ island. Especially when the typical 18 year old is still very much (a) in school, (b) about to serve National Service, and (c) doesn’t have any (or much) income to speak off. Our lift-off to independence, if you can even convince your parents to let you go, is very much delayed.

Nevertheless, that gives me more time to gain inspiration for my dream home (:

Now, with what little income and savings I would have, and the possibly impossibly small space I’d be living in, I’ve been spawning some really..erm…cheap creative ideas.

Required Items: reallyawesome curtains, and 1 thickthick mattress

Required Items: (Mismatched) old tiles that double up as Decor

Required Items: Glass Jars and Knick-knacks for Storage and Decor

Droolworthy Items: High ceilings and a killer library make for Nerd Lust

Required Area: Little Crook and Crannys (I love me some window seats)

My dreamhome is one of those rustic shophouses…What’s yours?
