“Fashion is a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months.”
Hilarious, though rather true if you think about it. Don’t get me wrong, I love fashion, but sometimes, people treat it too seriously. Sure, it helps your self-esteem (maybe) to dress well, to feel good. Sure, it is artistic. Yes, it is about self-expression too- edgy or classic, sexbomb or prim-and-proper, whatever piques your interest really. But at the end of the day, isn’t it supposed to first and foremost, about Fun?
There’s alot of self-persecution in local fashion- criticism about Hipsters, how one girl looks like another, lame leggings and gladiator sandals everywhere, etc. Sometimes, the comments sure do get vicious (although not without truth). But maybe we all need to just relax; it’s still just Fashion, it’s supposed to be Fun. So what if yet another girl in leggings-as-pants walks by? The world’s population is not going to convulse spontaneously and we all die. (Although sometimes it really can get rather Nasty…)
“Nothing of me is original. I am the combined effort of everybody I’ve ever known.”
– Chuck Palahniuk, Invisible Monsters, 1999
That said, maybe I’m not, you know, edgy, or cool, or avant garde enough or something, but I do find this fashion shoot Ridiculous and a little bit disturbing- the Zombie poses, AAAAH!
(Although I will take the pearls and the black lace dress, please).
