Museum of Islamic Art

Posted in Art by thisisanexperiment on December 29, 2009

One of my favourite places that I visited during my trip was the Museum of Islamic Art in Qatar.

It was architecturally quite something to look at- both the exterior and interior. The exterior is said to be designed to resemble the face of a woman dressed in an abaya / burkha. Take a look for yourself!

The interior is filled with a symmetry and geometric design (pardon me if I’m wrong in my technicalities for I am not an art student) that is typical of much Islamic art which I saw. Nonetheless, it still makes you hold your breath for a moment, as you try to take in everything. The art collection is also quite commendable and spectacular.

Amongst their prized pieces are the world’s longest carpet, a carpet made entirely out of authentic Gold thread, and the world’s oldest copy of the Koran, & lastly, a life-sized model of the the Knight in Shining Armour.

Beyond these pieces, are a number of stunning jewelled pieces, and decorated bowls and such. Even the books are wonderfully preserved and decorated.
