i am so uninspired

Posted in Fashion, Interest, Life by thisisanexperiment on October 19, 2009

I have been just reverting to unimaginative wear these days. Today, I put on my swing-dress and Dr Martens. Another dress-boot combi.

Tomorrow’s my Hell Day with a huge presentation I hope goes well- Going to wear my Alexander Wang inspired Zipper Dress.

Help me feel inspired, oh style.com

Celine’s Leather Shirt. Genius.

I think this is how my little red riding hood will look like. Plus the red cape/hood and red-dress of course.

Just a little devilish.

Black tights? Booties?

Or maybe this:

Now, what to do with my hair?

Shall I bunch up two ‘ponytails’?

Grey skies, grey outfit.

The grey bag that I got from paperbagheads.(I have a nice model holding it, don’t I?)

It’s pretty sturdy for its price, and not too flimsy which is always a plus point for me since I almost always spoil my bags by overloading it with too many things. I think it’ll be pretty school-friendly too (enough space to chuck in A4s, mac-charger, wallet, pouch of random ipod, lipbalm, matriculation card, keys), and even a pencil box & notebook).

After spending last night in heels, and getting caught in the crazed rain, it’s all about comfort today. Cue in the lace-up sandals from ninewest.

ninewest sale in HK, gotta love it.

In other news, the Dr Marten boots I managed to pick up for free was finally picked up by me today.

The brown wasn’t my first (or second choice), but it’s still free and I ain’t complaining.

I think it may just work…maybe.

Getting up in the morning (or afternoon) and deciding what to wear (or how to incorporate colours in an outfit) can be a pain in the arse.

I HAVE HEARD YOUR COMPLAINTS AND AM SUPPLYING THE SOLUTION(S)!

LOLLERSKATE.

Potential Solution 1: Start with the colours of the rainbow…or what’s in your wardrobe.

Wear Palettes advocates this approach, with their updates on colour schemes (that surprisingly, or otherwise) work! So Stare off into the various colour palettes, think/look at your wardrobe, and get dressed!

Potential Solution 2: For the less mind-working inclined

If you’re of the lazier sort, and don’t want to think about what colours you have in your wardrobe. Imitation is the best form of flattery (or not).

Sites like chictopia, lookbook.nu, wardrobe remix have daily massive outfit updates. Pick one that makes you go “ooh” and pick out the already-present pieces in your wardrobe to help you re-create those looks / vibe, and get more wear out of your clothes!

Even Fashion Blogs (see right side please) can be a good awesome place of inspiration! Find a fashion blogger whose style you dig, and get inspired!

Alternatively, get updated on the latest runway trends at style.com or menstyle.com and start doing your own version of their Ready To Wear!

Street-style blogs also serve as good inspiration! So feel free to surf and ogle.

Potential Solution 3: Start with a Statement Piece

Pick a statement piece, e.g a bag, a pair of awesome heels/flats, a new top, a jacket, WHATEVER, and then revolve your other outfit picks around it!

Yesterday, I started building my outfit around my AA Sexuali Tank.

Today, my statement piece was THIS pair of KILLER peeptoe platform booties!

Under-rated Fierceness

Posted in Fashion by thisisanexperiment on February 28, 2009

More items added to the yard sale!

But more on the Under-rated Fierceness that is Tilda Swinton.

Her Wiki Fact File:

The Swinton family is an ancient Anglo-Scots family that can trace its lineage to the ninth century.[5] Swinton attended West Heath Girls’ School (the same class as Diana, Princess of Wales), and also Fettes College for a brief period.

Swinton lives in Nairn, in the Highland area of Scotland, with Scottish painter John Byrne, the father of her twins, Xavier and Honor. She travels with her partner Sandro Kopp, a German/New Zealand painter,[14] while continuing a polyamorous (but platonic) live-in relationship with Byrne. She has been with Kopp since 2004 and the relationship has Byrne’s blessing.[15] In an interview, Swinton commented on her domestic situation:[16]

It’s the way we have been for nearly four years. I’m very fortunate. It takes some extraordinary men to make a situation like that work.

An established thespian, this woman is also incredibly muse-worthy- she may not dress pretty, or sex-bomb like, but her red-carpet choices are always Different, Unexpected and Risky. That means, she doesn’t dress like Angelina Jolie on the Red Carpet, i.e, Boring (I know a flowing black gown can hardly go wrong most times, but seriously, Every Single Time?!).

I am strangely drawn towards the darker colours during the CNY period; methinks it’s a subconscious rebellion against the bombardment of colours ALL AROUND, and the incessant playing of CNY tunes over and over and over again that gives me a headache, and it’s just like Shut…you get what I mean. So if my picks turn out to be less than colourful, do forgive.

I love the pattern of his Jacket- reminds me of something I have. An ensemble that’s both practical for fending against the aircon breeze of school and is totally Chic.

Mmmm. I ❤ boots.

Totally contemplating stealing a certain someone’s sweater, to achieve this.

Colour, pattern, clash.

Is that…the SIA uniform kebaya top??? Or is it me?

If it is, I am hyper-amused. Who ever thought that would work huh!
