MERRY CHRISTMAS

Posted in Fashion, Interest by thisisanexperiment on December 25, 2010

Merry Christmas! Can’t wait to dig into Turkey Stuffing. Backlog from past week(s):

  • Outfit post
  • Mega Japanese Meal at Ichiban-Boshi @ Nex
  • Rudi’s huge-ass-bone Birthday Treat (he was born on Christmas Eve!)

*I wore a F21 white tee, Zara pants (SGD10 at the warehouse sale), vintage belt, Nine West lace-up heels that are uber-comfortable. Have been resisting the temptation to wear the same pants everywhere I go. Too comfortable.

*My meal was a cheesey Japanese curry rice set and the boyfriend took the sushi platter. Both were yummy. The cheesey Japanese curry was savoury and went fantastic with the sweet rice, the oranges were a sweet treat to end the meal with. They serve a good chawanmushi, although (in my opinion), it still falls to Shin Kushiya’s over at Vivocity.

SHADES OF PINK

Posted in Fashion by thisisanexperiment on December 14, 2010

Outfit shots from just the other day.

Wearing some of my Zara loot- pink satin shirt (SGD10), Zara booties ($10)- with F21 denim shorts and black tights, together with my Cambridge Batchel.

Sad to say, the booties later proved to be a pain to walk in because of my high arch. Will have to hunt down some arch support gel pads (or anything else) to make it work. I am determined not to fail in this endeavour! Any other suggestions to relieve the lack of arch support?

Meanwhile, the ‘carrier’ setting on my iPhone 3GS has disappeared, I can’t get any service and reception, and that is pissing me off. How does a setting just disappear?!

FFF Relapse

Posted in Fashion by thisisanexperiment on October 3, 2010

It’s been a busy couple week (or two), as I’ve repeatedly mentioned, so we’ve suffered lapse(s) in FFF. I’ve been wanting to try out this skirt since forever; I am guilty to say that besides contemplating wearing this skirt in the safety of my bedroom, I have never dared venture out in it because of the fear of adding inches to my hips- generally not desirable.

I guess it took FFF and a clouded flu-bugged mind to say “ah whatever, I can’t think about it” to shove it on and out the door. Thought the peaked hips and pockets were enough on it’s own, so I thought I’d pare it down with a simple white tee and nude pumps.

My friend meanwhile, looks great in the jumpsuit! Which I forgot to ask her, where did you get it from!

Finally realized why my pictures seem grainy- ISO settings had been changed!

Envy

Posted in Fashion, Interest by thisisanexperiment on September 22, 2010

This past weekend (if I count Thursday in) has been hectic, hectic, hectic. I have so much work to do, my calendar is completely packed. I spent the whole weekend at home, furiously doing my work, reading, doing notes.

And next week? If I’m not having classes, I have meetings/research work for projects/ desperate studying for quizzes and mid-terms.

To top it off, I had some of my notes (which I previously spent hours doing) disappear on me! What in the WORLD. I’m one of those people who cannot study straight from the textbook. Taking my notes away from me is like taking a milk bottle away from a baby.

When I actually am not thinking of/getting stressed/doing work, I feel envy at everyone else who did something fun this weekend.

End rant. Cue backlog of outfit posts.

About a week back, I visited District 10 Bistro. The portions are generous, and the food pretty tasty, if you’re looking for a new place to dine. For what you get, the price is pretty reasonable. We also ordered a French Onion soup, for about SGD10. It wasn’t as scrumptious as the one I had in Vietnam though. Didn’t stay long to enjoy its evening atmosphere, but it looks like a great place to grab a dinner, then chill out with some dessert and drinks with friends.

District 10 Bistro is located at 10 Winstedt Road, over at Newton.

FFF #3

Posted in Fashion, Interest by thisisanexperiment on September 5, 2010

Friday was a busy day. So we quickly snapped our outfits during the class break.

I’m wearing my thrifted jacket, AA mesh dress, H&M bra, random black shorts, and ASOS cut-out wedges.

In other news, Wendy’s at Bras Brasah road is finally open and I went to try me some yesterday. We had the quarter-pounder burgers, fries, milkshake and baked potato with beef & cheese. The milkshake is very thick and the baked potato is quite worth it, especially if you’re thinking about grabbing something for class. The quarter-pounder didn’t taste much different from McDonald’s though.

Also, they sell garden and caeser salads for about SGD4-6.

Just one question though- WHY WOULD A FAST FOOD JOINT ONLY HAVE ONE CASHER/COUNTER? It boggles my mind. Someone better be getting redesigning that part of Wendy’s soon.

FFF #2

Posted in Fashion, Uncategorized by thisisanexperiment on August 29, 2010

FFF#2. This time, I woke up earlier, and got to class on time at the expense of a skipped or rather, delayed lunch.

Decided to wear that thrifted Red dress from the Salvation Army as a maxi dress. Cinched the waist in with a vintage belt, and paired it with my Nine West sandals. I love how the slits at the side of the legs are both aesthetic and functional (helps with walking quickly). It felt strange wearing a scarlet blood red ‘maxi’ dress, but it grew on me throughout the day.

My friends are looking like a Spring Time Picnic Girl, & Geek Girl 88.

Till next time, FFF.

Summer Business

Posted in Fashion by thisisanexperiment on August 26, 2010

Another backdated outfit shot. Thrifted navy blue blazer, MNG skirt, black satin slip, thong sandals, Pulp Fiction canvas bag. The great thing about this whole outfit is that every item in it cost less than SGD30. I like the subtle mix of textures from the blazer and the skirt too. I like to think that a casual dresscode at the outfit would make this a good work choice for the Summer.

In other news, the progression of my hair colour. Where it stands now:

FFF#1

Posted in Fashion by thisisanexperiment on August 25, 2010

This is a backdated outfit shot from last Friday, lovingly dubbed “Freaky Fashion Friday” by my friends & I. The one day out of the week where we endeavour to take fashion risks (or missteps).

Unfortunately, I woke up late for the first FFF & had to hurriedly throw on something before rushing late to class. I’m wearing a MNG ‘shoulders’ top, M&S lace bra, Cotton Top high-waist trousers & my knee-high gladiators. Shall wake up earlier this Friday.

BACK TO SCHOOL

Posted in Fashion by thisisanexperiment on August 16, 2010

My Back To School outfit. Heels because they make one feel better & more confident…always.

I didn’t have time to use my camera and do an outfit shot proper, so I snapped a quick one on my iPhone during the class break.

I’m wearing my new asos waist-tie harem pants, Nine West ankle booties, random black MNG top, thrifted silver jacket, and gifted silver necklace. It’s my first time wearing harem pants and I must say I’m happy I finally found the right one. I hated all the others that I had tried on (in my attempt to buy harem pants).

P.S, Robinson’s is having a sale at the Expo (Hall 4) until 22 August 2010.

While the boyfriend seemed to have a fantastic time loading up on adidas gear, spending eons checking out business shirts (even checking out the same shirt twice, after he had already put in the shopping bag), and then spending tonnes of time on bedsheets, I found the sale alittle meh for me clothes-wise.

There is a modest range of Nine West, Steve Madden and J.Loshoes (I spotted some pairs which I already own) going at affordable prices (think SGD50 onwards), and I suppose you could stock up on undies from Triumph.

The real value, I felt, lies in its discounted cosmetics & skincare. Notable brands available were Maybelline, L’Oreal, Paul & Joe, elf, etc. I used the opportunity to stock up on a couple of essentials. My haul:

  • L’Oreal Superliner- SGD12.90 (U.P SGD18.90)
  • Maybelline Magnum Volume Express Mascara- SGD 12.90 (U.P SGD18.90)
  • L’Oreal UV Perfect SPF 30 Matte- SGD14.05 (U.P SGD21.00 or so)
  • Paul & Joe Lip Lacquer- SGD 19.00 (U.P ???)

Bought the gloss cause I finally found the perfect natural shade for my skin tone. It’s pretty lasting as well and a little goes a long way so there’s no need to overdose on the gloss.

What are your make-up & skin-care must haves?

Also, I am contemplating moving to tumblr. Unfotunately, thisisanexperiment.tumblr is already taken. I’ve yet to figure out how to do a blogroll on tumblr, so for the moment, the move is on hold. Does anyone know how to do a blogroll on tumblr?

Or maybe I’ll only move to tumblr once my upload space has been used up.

LAST MAMBO OF THE LAST SUMMER

Posted in Fashion, Life by thisisanexperiment on August 15, 2010

Last Mambo of the Last Summer I will get to enjoy so languidly. Funny how I waste away so many of my summer days, and now spend my time trying to squeeze the most out of its last moments.

Outfit Shots & Randoms.
